A Story on what Art is
In the year 2000, we were facing the following situation:
A Christo work of art with a value of CHF 115,000 was transported to Zurich. The work of art, depicting a packing of a piece of wood, had to be unpacked before it was brought into the vault.
A rather overzealous employee took a look at the work of art and decided not only to take it out of the case but to remove the whole packing. He then decided that it should be repacked and commenced to doctor it until someone yelled that the packing was the work of art.
Embarrassed, an expert of art was contacted, and it was decided that the work of art could be repaired. Nevertheless, the owner insisted that the full insured value was paid. This was done, and we became the proud owner of the work of art, which we proceeded to sell on a private basis to a long-time customer of ours.
He bought it for the value of the story. In the meantime, our customer informs us that the work of art hangs over his bed, and he has begun to understand the mystery and art in what Christo does.
Yours sincerely,Alpina Insurance
