Nokuthula Mpofu, known professionally as sheArtista (born February 28, 1994), is a Zimbabwean acrylic painter based in Harare. A self-taught artist, sheArtista complements her artistic practice with a background in Architectural Design, a discipline that informs her sense of structure, balance, and spatial awareness within composition.
Her work is inspired by African animal totems that define tribal identity and by the complex relationships between humans and the natural world. Drawing on these cultural symbols, sheArtista explores metaphorical intersections between humanity and wildlife, using visual narratives to question coexistence, power, and interdependence. Her paintings often blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, combining realistic depictions with fantastical or illogical elements.
Stylistically, her work weaves together surrealism, expressionism, and contemporary African visual language. Through bold brushstrokes, splash techniques, and emotive subjects, sheArtista creates vibrant compositions that capture moments of beauty, tension, and harmony. Her paintings invite viewers to reflect on the fragile balance between nature and humanity while engaging broader themes of identity, resilience, and transformation.
Marked by continual experimentation and growth, sheArtista’s evolving practice reflects a deep curiosity about the world’s complexities. Her work challenges convention, sparks introspection, and affirms the enduring strength of the human spirit.
